The most popular feature of You Can't Do That On Television was the green slime. Anytime anyone would utter the words, "I don't know," green slime would fall mysteriously from the heavens above on the unsuspecting victims.
Although slime was by far the messiest, the show also, of course, used plenty of other things to dump and throw at its cast members. Two of the other most popular elements used were water and pies. Water was at first triggered by the words "water" and "wet", but "wet" was later removed, leaving "water" the only word triggering a cold bath from the sky. Pies weren't regularly triggered by a word or phrase, but they did seem to pop up quite a few times.
On the right-hand side of this page, you can click on the separate year links to check out the full statistics of everything that was dumped, tossed or splashed on the set during the show's run.
Also, Nickelodeon used to have an annual contests called Slime-Ins, where winners would be flown to the CJOH-TV studios in Ottawa, Ontario to be slimed on national television. See all the winners and watch them get slimed.
