Roger Price planning to do YCDTOTV reboot

Interesting to see how a modern YCDTOTV will be, and it seems they are going to bring back the musical performances like they did in the 1979 season.

What a shame that no one can ever leave well enough alone. One hopes this threatened project never gets off the ground, since it will tend only to cheapen the legacy of the show that bears its name. But a certain contingent seems determined to do just that, and it's unlikely that it will be stopped.

As for me, I am glad I still have the option of watching my downloads of the glorious original. (They can't take those away from me - or can they???) Alas, since access to that glorious original has been intentionally limited in order to gin up demand for this remake, we are now faced with the prospect of a whole generation of viewers for whom the name "You Can't Do That on Television" will signify an inferior product, rather than its wondrous namesake. I hope Roger Price will think twice before doing this thing, rejecting the sway of self-interested hucksters and the lure of easy money in favor of the satisfaction of knowing that he left us wanting more, rather than lamenting that he gave us too much.

The show is being revived for the current generation of children aged 5 - 15, who missed out on a great show. If you are a fan, I'm sorry to say, the show is not targeting you, it is targeting children. Meaning your children and GRANDCHILDREN. You have your version and they will have theirs. The kids of today have a NICKELODEON that SUCKS - When Price and Darby left, so did all the great ideas. Now they are set to return, not for the original fans.... THE REAL VIEWERS.

And also, you will watch it... you know why... cause it was created by Roger Price, Darby and there are rumors of the original cast return (for the fans) as the kids don't care who Moose was or Les, Alasdair, or Chris. They will care for their version. And as I see, these new kids will fit mighty fine for what is planned. There is a fan fighting to keep the show with similar aspects of the original... But even he says, why worry about 20,000 fans when there are 36 MILLION Kids between 6 - 14 years old in America. YCDTOTV does not belong to us, the original viewers... because we were not the original viewers.

Oh and if you don't like it - and the kids of today do... You know what that means huh....?

Well, I personally wouldn't watch your new show if Les Lye himself came back to life and took a starring role in it, so that's where you're wrong. One can't help but wonder, if children are "targeted" (nice word: really gets to the heart of the matter), and these children "don't care" about the original show, why call it "You Can't Do That on Television" at all? Why not simply make a new show, and call it something else? Might it have something to do with the cachet that name has with the older generation you claim to disdain, but on which you'll depend if your show is to succeed?

Finally, kids of today like many things I don't like, and vice versa, and I don't know what it "means," or if it "means" anything. What do you think it means?

This is all said with total respect. I hope we can disagree civilly. As I said, I know that the show will go forward without my consent. Like many other (and far more important) things, I'll have to learn to live with it. I'm just glad I have the option of not watching.
