  • Random thoughts of a future YCDTOTV........

I stumbled upon this site several days ago...and I must admit, it has brought up some fond memories of watching the show as a child. Now at 28, I realize the show as we knew it is gone for good, but why cant there be a new variation for our future and present children, and even us, to enjoy??
WIth the formula of adults and children in the same show, combined with outrageous costumes, funny characters, etc. I would think it would be a no brainer. Doesnt even have to be called YCDTOTV, just have a similar, fun feel, and some more modern stories, jokes, etc. Perhaps even have some rare appearances from old cast members, which could keep us adults tuned in as well. And..even the adult characters could be different...why not a "raging gym teacher", and an "elderly custodian" who gossips about all the kids to each other. So on and so forth...I would think it could happen.
I currently live in FL, and have spent some time here and there in LA, and even done auditions, appeared in a music video, and a brief appearance on a vh1 reality show. However....Im just as sick of reality tv as anyone.... I say its time we get back to simple, fun comedy that brings adults and children together. Just my opinion...feel free to write me with yours!

While I only have limited connections at the moment, trust me Ray -- I'm working on it.

      Awesome David

Keep me posted. Just curious...where do you see such a show ending up network wise. Nick? Disney? abc family? Sorry to say my only connections producer, and agent wise are not closely related to this type of genre, more mtv trash reality, ha. Stay in touch!

I think it would need Nickelodeon as its home. Especially if it were to feature green slime and other necessary elements. Of course, to retain its integrity and continue to push boundaries, it might wind up in the first slot on Nick at Nite. Dare to dream, I guess.

Not to mention Nickelodeon has had a trademark on green slime since the 90s.

That -- and the fact that Nickelodeon needs to diversify their live-action programming. No disrespect to Schneider/Tollin/Robbins, but Nick should start showcasing programs that don't share the EXACT SAME BRAND OF HUMOR over and over again. Classic shows like this and a certain game show need to be revived. While the original "You Can't" stands well on its own without question, a revival could explore territories the previous version never did.

That's why I loved Chris and Ric's "How'd This Get Online?" and the way it introduced a modern feel to our beloved program. The new "You Still Can't" will provide another great animated tribute to the show, which I completely look forward to watching. However, I personally believe a live-action version is ultimately necessary. I'm certainly up to the challenge and will do everything I can to make it happen.

You all have no idea!!! DOnt help these huge companies get richer!! Independant is the way to go!!!! Dont sell your ideas. Just screen it where you can..........wait for interest ot generate, and then you'kll be approached with the big bucks.....

anyway, it DOES have to YCDTOT because.........it just does!

Exactly the same!!! YCDTOT is surely responsible for a large number of the bratty adult populatoin in 2005!!

We need it to be as bad as it was in the 80's. It was pretty bad ***!! I mean, there were kids who I knew back then that werent allowed to watch it!!!! Lucky for me I had no such restriction!! I used to learn about sex through Degrassi Junior High when I was 5!!! I learnt some attitude from YCDTOT and KISS, Bret Hart and the Ultimate Warrior done the rest!!!
This show shaped my life!! now its fading into obscurity and it's slowly being forgotten!!
WHY?!?!?! Who is in charge of the world?!?!?! All these damn wars, stupid TV shows and musicians......its pathetic!!!! The WWE (always WWF to me) is now the most embarrassing thing in the world!! Im ashamed to be a fan!!! Same as KISS the 50% cover band that we have to pay $200 to see!! What a joke!!! But I stand by things...thats why I'll always march in the KISS Army, and I'll always be into Wrestling (just not from today!), and thats also why Im here trying to salvage something of a return for this legendary program!! WHO's WITH ME?!?!?!?
                      WAIT WAIT!!! STOP THE EXECUTION!!

Nope. The problem that both of you are going to run into is a little thing called "Format Rights." The format for YCDTOTV is protected by a Canadian copyright and, likely, US-licensed format rights through Nickelodeon. I've been researching what needs to be done to make this happen for well over a year now.

The main things needed are MONEY and INTEREST. I've been an independent producer on a professional level now for just over two years. I incorporated my own production company, DND Films, Inc., when I was just 18. Trust me...I know what IS necessary in creating a new version of this show.

CJOH, CTV and Nickelodeon are all having problems releasing the original show on DVD right now because the original performer contracts didn't include royalties for DVD and video releases. As a result, they are having to come up with a reasonable monetary solution for ALL cast and crew members (125+ people). Meanwhile, a new version could be produced for a FRACTION of that cost, but you run into the format rights issue.

I'm currently producing two separate TV pilots for Nickelodeon (and yes, they DO know I exist -- I've been in contact with their Director of Development, and they are awaiting my next two submissions). I'm also awaiting a response from the Sundance Channel on a submission to them. If I encounter success of any kind within the next couple of months, I will use that time to develop a new YCDTOTV with Nickelodeon.

Nickelodeon might already hold the US format rights to YCDTOTV. If that's the case, they just need someone to prove to them why it should be restarted, and how it could be modernized without loosing any of its integrity. If they don't already have the format rights, they need someone to give them a good enough reason to GET them. As many have stated in other posts regarding a possible DVD release, it will simply take PATIENCE.

I'm obviously not saying you guys can't write some episodes on your own. I'm not the boss of anyone but myself. However, for a new version to be done right, as Aaron Philpott stated previously, it NEEDS to be YCDTOTV. Not a slightly different show with a slightly different format and a slightly different title, but the ACTUAL thing.

                          Just a little more patience...

i've been working on this for a little while, and it's more like a new all that, because my skits are full length, and kinda like snl and madtv with a hour-long show and cussing, and like ,uh,chapple's show, being on comedy central, and possibly get nick to show edited reruns.
