Thread: Christine's Slime Reactions

    Default Christine's Slime Reactions

Christine's slime reactions were the best , but so different from all the other cast members.
I have the distinct memory of her as she would do like a really shocked "oh my god!" horrified and disappointed expression and than make noises like she was in great pain of some kind like"ahh! ohh! ahh!" as the laugh track rolled and the slime pored down.
She really made getting slimed look like something to dread!
Was she was just the best actor and really got into pretending she hated it? or maybe she really did just hate getting green slimed as much as her character did?

From what I've gathered from other threads, Christine really did hate getting slimed; so much so in fact that in later seasons she was given the option to not get slimed. I believe she was the only cast member to ever be given that privilege.

really? I just thought because she was star of the show she was able to negotiate her way out of getting slimed in her last season but I didn't know she HATED it. Anyone else know if that's true?
If so, is that why she used to make those noises when it would dump on her? Because it actually pained her to get slimed?
Whatever the reason for her reactions, they were the best.

Bob Black can probably comment on this, but I believe it was 1985 when Christine turned the corner and exercised her option to pass the slime torch others. After getting the brunt of the slimings and waterings over the years, once we got to the 1985 season, she was only slimed twice (Identity Crisis and Movies) and watered once (in the same scene in Movies) out of 10 episodes. In her 5 1986 appearances, she was neither slimed nor watered.

As for her vocal reactions, I am su****ious that the temperature of the substance falling on her had something to do with it. Have you ever stepped into a cold shower? Did you scream like a little girl and then quickly back out of the cold stream? Well what if you couldn't and you had to stand under that shower for a few extra seconds? I am suspect that you would be making noise too.

At one point, Christine wasn't even going to be in the 1985 episodes. When I was going through my first script submission with "Fears, Worries & Anxieties," I was asked to rewrite it without Christine. Then, when the script sold, I was asked to put her back.

I don't know whether it was an official part of the deal to get her back in the show, but I do know we weren't supposed to slime her unless it was absolutely necessary. She rewrote two sketches in the set to get out of it. The "instant revenge" bit in "Revenge" was originally supposed to get her, but she changed it so that it backfired on Alasdair (which, admittedly, was a better gag), and in "Movies" she was supposed to get slimed twice in a row, but she changed it to where she got slimed and then watered.

it feels like it goes against everything I've heard about her personality-I mean she sounds like she was really nice-but the whole refusing to get slimed and making so everybody else got slimed but her thing is a bit Diva-esque.

Plus it made her a less likable character-the reason she could get away with being a smart alec in the early seasons was because you knew she was going to have something bad happen to her any moment. Especially on the link set-you knew she was going to get the green slime. Then in the later epsiodes-you are waiting and waiting and everybody gets it but her.
Honestly it kind of wrecked the show for me as she was the best slime victim.

Maybe it's just me, but I really think you're taking this whole thing too seriously...

I'm glad it was rewritten that way, worked out better in the long run.

Really, I don't think that it has anything to do with acting like a "diva" and everything to do with that Christine just got tired of being the brunt of the same joke. If slimings and watering had happened to her less frequently in earlier seasons, she probably wouldn't have so many issues with it in later episodes.

And I suspect any other cast member would have felt the same way.
