Default Question about a 1986 Scene

I was watching the part 1 comp of 1986 slimings and saw scene at the tale end where ross and allisdair are complaining because the green makeup they are wearing won't come off-christine comes over and after pouring herself a cup of coffee begins mocking them-they get mad and Allisdair dumps the coffee on christine-then the compilation abruptly cuts off.
it's been said that the coffee break area they used on the show was the real coffee break area-does that mean they actually dumped actual hot coffee on christine?
She makes a shriek sound when it hits her-does anyone know if she really get burned?

I doubt they would actually use hot coffee, that would be crossing the line

That's the very last sketch of the "Music" episode, and no, Christine was faking it.

lol if it was real hot coffee, Christine would sue YCDTOTV for a million dollars and there would be no rest of1986, 1987 , 1989-90 episodes. :P

I wasn't there for that taping session, but I would guess that Alasdair and Christine were messing around in rehearsal and decided to do the dumping-the-coffee bit on their own. They came up with a lot of things that way.

That makes it different from the opening of the "Revenge" episode, where Christine and Lisa really did squirt Alasdair with ketchup and dump cold milk down his shirt. In that case, it was planned in advance, and as I said, the milk was cold, which caused... um, other problems... for Alasdair. Nothing permanently harmful, though.

actually-the compilation on youtube cuts off abruptly right when christine is starting to shriek- but you can't tell if there is even anything in the cup that spills out.
I've never seen the rest of the scene-does liquid (possibly cold coffee instead of hot) actually even pour out of the cup and onto her?

The way the scene is shot-the coffee pot is obscured behind the actors,it's just implied that she is getting coffee- so maybe she doesn't even pour anything into the cup to begin with?

There is no rest of the scene. It's the end of the episode, so it fades to black right where you see it end.

I'm certain the cup is empty the entire time. No show hosts were harmed in the taping of the sketch.

I was watching this episode again and I have to say for an improvised moment, the ending is acted very well -I love how christine goes to the trouble of making it look like she is pouring the coffee -pretending to look like she is sipping hot coffee -and then, the sound she makes when it dumps on her really sounds like she is getting burned-kinda made me flinch a bit. She freaked. I was reading one of the episode guides where they list "coffee" as stage pollution for christine in this episode-and I wonder if that was the last "stage pollution" Christine ever got? (even though it wasn't actually shown) -really shoulda dumped it on alanis though. she never took enough abuse.

That is a delightful scene. I love how she teases him that "green is Alanis's favorite color" before he dumps the coffee; it's one of those great natural and playful moments between cast members that I treasure so much about the show. The interplay between those two is really good throughout that one: check out the midair scissor kick Christine executes just before she stomps on his foot in an earlier segment (to make him "sing," after a fashion), and the joy which she seems to take in doing it. Overall, one of my favorites from 1986-a wonderful and absolutely bonkers concept, acted with a perfect mix of enthusiasm and skepticism by the entire cast. It also features one of the all-time great Alasdair scenes, where as Alanis's date he demonstrates his church "singing" style for the Preverts at the dinner table...and I love the instruments Ross passes out at the end for their "band."
"Now me, I play for fortune
    And those velvet curtain calls
I've got a black limousine and two gentlemen
    Escorting me to the halls
And I'll play if you have the money
Or if you're a friend to me
    But the one-man band
    By the quick-lunch stand
    He was playing real good
    For free..."

And it's also a delightful example of schadenfreude. How happy Christine is that Allisdair is going to be stuck with the green paint. Those two were great at being gleefully cruel to eachother. And he's loving dumping the coffee too-which is pretty sadistic seeming, especially with the howl she emits after it dumps on her. They should have turned that into her new running gag after she stopped getting slimed and watered. Everytime she tries to drink coffee it gets dumped on her! At least she wouldn't have had to have her hair messed up.
