Thread: Can you identify this episode?

Default Can you identify this episode?

I've asked about the pic before but recently I was trying to figure out which episode it was from-on this very website, when you go the list of sets they used on the show-for the one they have in the "coffee break area" set-they show Christine in the craft services/ backstage area wearing a cute red dress. I don't remember which episode this was from-does anyone remember which episode this photo is from or any episodes with Christine in a red dress?

It's the opening sketch for "Romance & Dating." Not only was that one of my episodes, but I was there on the set that day.

And as for the dress, it's what she's wearing in my user pic, too.

wow-I couldn't tell because the pic is in black and white. For some reason I had very little memory of this episode-but checked it out on youtube and it is quite good. That must have been a strategically picked red dress for the "romancey" theme.
-I guess it also answered another one of my old thread questions too-about whether or not the kids on the show drank coffee.Christine does indeed seem to be having a cup of it right in the opening shot.Still a weird concept for me. Kids/teens in 80's America did not start drinking coffee until at least the 90's starbucks boom.
Those Canadians beat us to the punch again!

-You can even see the full coffee pot next to her. -or was it just another empty prop cup she was holding like the one she "spilled" on herself in "pop music"?

At the time, coffee was the number one beverage in Canada. That was the year of the "New Coke" fiasco, and the news media were all laughing about the silly Americans and their love of soda pop.

I can understand that it was the most popular drink in Canada(although I'm surprised that beer was not) however that doesn't mean kids would drink coffee. However they show Chrisitne drinking it several times in the series. Although she was over 21 at this point wasn't she? Maybe she just drank it because she was an "Adult"
-or maybe kids drinking coffee was a product of the French influence on Canada.
-in any case New Coke was indeed stupid.

I was just watching the "Divorce" episode where she was complaining that there's not enough hot "water" for tea, then meekly holds her tea bag beneath the resulting deluge, as though to brew it in that! And of course there's a similar joke in "Cooking," where she's trying to brew tea and gets soaked.

So it seems certain that there was no shortage of caffeine on the set, anyway...And yes, that was a really pretty dress, which I think she wears in "Identity Crises" too, if memory serves. Red was a delightful color for Christine; it really agreed with her. (Of course, there was no color that didn't agree with Christine...)

yeah-and didn't barth like pour coffee on the characters laps in the embarrasment episode? Ow!That had to hurt!
-I think coffee should have been a regular threat. Except instead of real coffee they should have dumped the coffee sludge you get at the bottom of the coffee pot on their heads! That would have been gross.

McGuinn, its not the same dress. The one in Identity crisis had a striped white-red collar. I hated that dress. It looked like it needed a belt or something.

Excuse me? I loved New Coke. Sweeter than classic, not as sweet as Pepsi. By the way, Coca-Cola did extensive taste testing before launch. Guess which version won every single taste test? That's right - New Coke.

Taste wasn't the problem. The problem was a horrible marketing campaign and poor public relations.

The Max Headroom commercials were good, but they came too late to save it.

By the way, I could still buy New Coke well into the 90s in my area of Canada (Prince Edward Island).

Now that I see it again, you're right: good catch, Cappie, as to the "identity," so to speak, of the dress in that episode. We are definitely not ever going to agree as to its merits, however; I was inspired to watch the whole episode (for purposes, naturally, of careful and objective review) by our discussion and find I like the outfit just as much as before...even without a belt!

Questions of wardrobe notwithstanding, I kind of waver on my favorite 1985 episode, but "Identity Crisis" is probably it. The whole ensemble is great, very loose and spontaneous-seeming. Les is particularly outstanding, Christine has a number of superb moments, and in my opinion it's perhaps the best episode that Justin Cammy ever had. Every time I see an episode featuring him, I like him better and better-funny, because I never recall appreciating him particularly, back when I was a kid.
