    Default Cut-Aways

Bit of a technical question-but at what point in the show did they start doing cut-aways during the slime bits? I think back in the early days when someone got the slime they would either just get slimed in one static shot, and then someone would react to it-or they would show two kids in the frame would watch while the other got slimed.
As we all know and have talked about, the show loved to show kids taking pleasure in the other kids misofrtunes-but from clips I've seen online it seems like at some later point in the show they started doing specific cut-aways -like they would show slime dumping on someone, then cut to the other kid laughing hysterically at them, then back to the slime victim again.
In the one scene where that one guy gets the "longest slime ever" they seem to cut away to girls laughing at him-and in the one where Vanessa comes back to the show -and they slime her because she said "I don't know" a long time ago and they still owe her a sliming, in that one I think they cut away to someone laughing at her prediciment too.
Just wondering if that happened a lot more later on and how often it did-and why they started it. I really don't remember it happening before 85.

I don't really remember there being cutaways like the ones you described, but one thing I noticed in later seasons was that they would stop tape to lay down the plastic and then after the sliming was over, they'd stop tape again to remove the plastic and then put the kid back on the set. Curious as to why they did that as even residual slime would ruin the carpet on the risers. In the earlier shows, they would usually do a tighter shot to hide the plastic although there were other scenes where it was completely visible (Lisa's watering in Rumors, Alasdair's sliming in Bullies, Matthew's everything in Know-It-Alls, etc).

I know there was a cut-away to Lisa during Moose's drenching in the "ESP, Magic and Astrology" (1984) episode - they showed her grinning while she held the tabloid newspaper over her head to try to keep herself dry. That was a funny drenching because the next shot was Moose trying to splash some of the water on Lisa while it was falling on her. LOL.

I also seem to recall a cutaway to Brodie laughing at Moose the first time she got slimed in the "Sexual Equality" episode. That was way back in 1981.

I think for Vanessa's first sliming in "Age," they didn't cut away to Patrick laughing at her until the sliming was over.
