:O oooh gotta check it out!!
And of course Seth "Chris Griffin" Green's "Robot Chicken" has already featured a number of YCDTOTV references. I figured Seth MacFarlane was probably a YCDTOTV fan too, since he and Green are both the right age to have been part of the YCDTOTV fan generation. I immediately got excited when I saw the list of episode titles for this season and saw "You Can't Do That On Television, Peter," figuring it would probably be a YCDTOTV homage. Hopefully it has green slime like the "Robot Chicken" tribute did.![]()
I was hoping that this episode was going to be a sketch comedy episode involving the Family Guy characters sending up YCDTOTV but I guess not. I'm hoping that this episode will start with a wacky pre-empt and ends with a wacky production announcement.
Nope... nothing to do with YCDTOTV at all, the only thing remotely YCDTOTV-like was a pie in the face gag. Something of a letdown as far as wishing for a YCDTOTV homage, although I did enjoy the episode. It simply had something to do with Peter becoming hooked on Stewie's favorite preschooler TV show and then taking over for the female host after she decides to quit.
Lois getting pied was the highlight of that show (both times actually)!

Turns out there was another, much earlier Family Guy episode that does have a LEGITIMATE YCDTOTV reference in it. It's the season four episode "Fast Times at Buddy Cianci Jr. High" from 2005. The storyline involves Chris's English teacher retiring. During an open-house night at school where Peter and Lois are visiting Chris's classroom, Lois asks Peter if the teacher will be coming back. Peter says, "I don't know," and is slimed. The still shot that comes right after that is a direct reference to the end of the YCDTOTV opening with the words being stamped over Les Lye's face. This episode just aired on Adult Swim this evening and I had the good fortune to tune in right as the slime scene occurred.
And yes Peter, Lois' pieings (even though the first one was technically not Lois but the "Saggy Naggy" puppet) had me in stitches both times.![]()
