Thread: Christine Plays a different character?

Default Christine Plays a different character?

In the Saftey First episode at the very end in the post credits scene, is that Christine playing the secretary that pours the coffee on Mr. Nicholson Dime? It sure looks like her, and no one else on the show really looked like that-but I didn't know she played other characters ever. Does anyone know if thats her?

Christine also played a baglady in the movie theater a few times in the 1981 season.

That was the season between Ruth Buzzi (who played those characters, or characters like them, on WTYO) and Abby Hagyard, so Christine ended up playing the "adult female" roles as needed.

I love her old crone from that season. Particularly in the opposite sketch where she's tearing up the seats with a knife and the kids are sewing them up. ("You got a thimble on you, man?" Jono hilariously asks.) And the sketch where she hassles Kevin Schenk until he finally gives in and kisses Lisa...much to the disgust of Angie, who as it turns out is his date!

I really like that "old woman at the theater" character... it was a shame they didn't use her again after the '81 season. I would have loved to see how Abby Hagyard would have handled her.

Come to think of it there was also the "Cinderella" sketch in the "Fairy Tales" episode from '86, where Abby is the wicked stepmother and Christine and Vanessa are the two wicked stepsisters to Sarah's (the British girl) Cinderella.

And, not having watched the World Records episode in a while and not remembering this sketch, was that Christine holding a tape recorder in one of the firing-squad sketches as shown here? http://www.barthsburgery.com/ycdtotv/worldrecords85.htm If it was and that was what her actual hair looked like in real life, I sort of see the reason for the headband that season.

    Chris,

That was not Christine in the Cinderella sketch. That was Alasdair as a stepsister. He did great pursing his lips and hold his long hair back and skipped out of the kitchen.

I didn't think it was her in the World Records sketch either but the Barth's Burgery site says it is. I think that's a wig, but I could be wrong. There were several sketches where she didn't wear the headband that year, usually bedroom scenes where she was in her pink PJs, but I think her hair was supposed to look rather disheveled in those. In Identity Crises she didn't wear one and it looked similar to the previous two seasons, just a little more wavy and lighter in colour.

I think they should have kept her secretary character. I liked the new york sort of voice she was doing and she looked hot! I liked how at the end, after pouring the coffee on his lap, she ends up drinking it herself out of his cup. Actually, that little bit looked ad-libbed by Christine. I wonder if it was in the script, or if she just decided she wanted some coffee.

@CappieGuy - Hmm... I was going from memory there. Thanks for the correction. Guess I should watch that episode again. I always just assumed it was Christine. Alasdair did do a really good job as a stepsister... as a kid I had NO IDEA that was him. Come to think of it, "her" height should have been a clue that that wasn't Moose.

I guess I kind of figured that (if it is Moose) was her actual hair in the World Records episode knowing that she rode a motorcycle in real life and that hairstyle (if it is real) seems sort of "biker-ish" to me. I thought Christine looked really nice with her hair that way in the Identity Crisis episode. The headband made her look younger, to me, than she looked in any of the previous seasons except maybe 1979 and WTYO. The only other time I can remember that she used any other kind of "instrument" in her (natural) hair was when she had it in a ponytail in one '83 episode (Rules and Regulations?).

It was Inequality Kids vs. Adults that she wore the ponytail. I want to say that she wore barrettes or pins on occasion in 1986 (which was a year that her hair was quite long)...maybe in the Garbage episode (her last) but I could be wrong about that. And I completely agree with you as to her hair being pretty in Identity Crises; in my opinion she looks especially breathtaking in that episode, even by her standards.
