    Default Production of YCDTOTV

Who didn't want to do YCDTOTV without Roger Price? Did Mr Price not want to allow someone else to do the show, or did CJOH think it would only work with him at the helm?

It seems to me that this is one of the things which led to the shows eventual cancellation - after all, Mr Price wasn't going to do the show forever - besides, any show needs the eventual infusion of fresh ideas. Who knows, maybe if the show had transitioned to a new creative team, maybe it would have seemed worth continued production.

I agree with you there, especially after Nickelodeon began to air reruns of the show only on weekends--instead of their late afternoon/early evening weekday lineup that was famous in their early years.

    Just a thought.

Heh. I was asking that question a lot in 1986-7. The explanation I got was indeed that CJOH thought it would only work with Roger in charge. Whether or not that's the real explanation, or whether there were any complicating factors involved is probably something we'll never know.

Personally, I think it could have been done. Much of the creative team was still around. Speaking for myself, I was more than up for it. I'd graduated from college by then, and would have swum across the Great Lakes and sneaked back into Canada if it meant I could have worked on the show again.

Roger was already showing signs of burnout when I last saw him in August 1986. He very much wanted to make the jump to Hollywood with his show, Morning Star, Evening Star, and I think he really took it hard when Hollywood stuck it to him on that project.

But for whatever reason, YCDTOTV was always his show. It lived with him, and it died with him.

Oops. No, as far as I know (which admittedly isn't a lot) he is still very much alive. But YCDTOTV died when his interest in doing it died.
