Thread: Well, it's finally happened...

    Default Well, it's finally happened...

...Today I received word that three of my YCDTOTV videos were deleted from YouTube for copyright infringement by Viacom. They might be cracking down on YouTube now. (Oddly enough, two of those three were Whatever Turns You On videos, and I wasn't aware that they had the rights to those...) Anyway, I went ahead and deleted the rest of my YCDTOTV, Nick, and MTV videos to be on the safe side. If you have any YCDTOTV videos on YouTube, you might want to do the same so your whole account doesn't get deleted, as mine probably would have been had I not deleted the rest of my Viacom videos.

    Just a friendly warning!

I wish I could say that it's Nickelodeon trying to remove them because they plan to release them on DVD, but it ain't gonna happen.

We can always dream about the one in my avatar. *shrugs*

I'm leaving my Nickelodeon videos up until they get deleted. I don't care if they suspend my account. I haven't uploaded a video is close to a year now.

    Further thoughts on this subject...

I've been having a mini-marathon of my favorite YCDTOTV and WTYO episodes in the last 12 hours or so, and the thought that keeps returning to my mind is "I wish I could share some of these moments on YouTube like I used to." I really do miss the comments I used to get from people that told me that I was doing something that helped people regain childhood memories. But Viacom won't allow that. (Of course, I realize that it's a copyright violation no matter what) But I was wondering if perhaps, just perhaps, the local episodes didn't fit under this category. After all, they never aired on Nickelodeon (or anywhere outside of Ottawa, for that matter). So wouldn't Viacom have no authority to get videos from those episodes taken down? I don't remember anymore if, of all the videos I posted that got deleted, any were from the 1979 shows. I do remember that they took down at least one of my Whatever Turns You On videos-I would've thought the same argument would've been relevant there, too, since those episodes never aired outside of Canada, and, I assumed, are not controlled by Viacom. Yet they had such videos deleted! The only way it would make sense to me is if the WTYO episodes were part of the package when YCDTOTV was shown on Nickelodeon, even though they never aired them there.

Anyway, I'm rambling. My point is that I'm not willing to post these videos on my CatThatHasNoName account again, because I've already had several videos deleted, and I think my account would be deleted if I posted more of them. Maybe I'll start a second account, and just post to that one from now on, including new skits and moments from YCDTOTV and WTYO.

Is there an audience for this? I'll let you guys know if I decide to do this.

    Update:

I started a second YouTube account for my new videos, and most of the videos I've posted so far are YCDTOTV ones. Here is the link to my new account, if you guys are interested:

I just hope that nobody deletes this account...
