  • CJOH building ready for the wrecking ball!

The final clearing of the building has started. Anything left inside now is headed for the dumpsters and then the building will be handed back to the owner. This will happen in the next week or so. Wednesday was my third and last trip to remove what had been put aside for me. The Lockers, "Dad's" chair, Firing Squad post, the Skeleton from the dungeon, large barrel worn by Christine and one of the dinning room chairs (with dried slime) are now at home in my basement. (Mom's chair was lost because of water and smoke damage as it was in the front part of the building).
The show masters are at a storage facility. I am told thirty two thousand tapes went into storage (over 400 being YCDTOTV). Sounds high to me but everything that went to three storage areas around town was inventoried and this is the number I was told. Everything that left the building had to go through a decontamination process but because this memorabilia was locked away backstage it didn't need any intensive cleaning. The only item that hasn't made the transition well was the skeleton. I don't know what they did to him but now he is a spine and a pile of bones.

It's good to hear that the YCDTOTV master tapes and a number of the props that made the show as great as it was (and still is) are still safe.

Still, it's tough to say goodbye what is probably the best link to the show outside of the cast and crew, that being the studio where it all happened.

      Aw, poor Hodgkins.

I haven't been to that building in almost 24 years, but I'm still going to miss it.

Ah yes... very tricky, those Argentinians...

        That's a shame.

Those masters have to stay safe. They're the only things that can really keep the show alive, especially if they were to come out on DVD/online-download someday... somehow.

Does Canada have something like Public Domain or anything like that? Those masters need to be converted to digital and released either on DVD or free for posterity.

Imagine being able to see the 81-83 episodes in it's original uncut format before scenes were cut for commercial breaks as well as viewing episodes in pristine format. Now that would be sweet!

You are so lucky to have that memorabilia! I am in the U.S.A, but if I could have been a part in any TV series, it would be YCDTOTV. Although, Adventures of Pete & Pete would've been one, too. For a US show it would be something from Sid & Marty Krofft. Like, H. R. Pufnstuff or The Land of the Lost. A-Team would be excellent, Silver Spoons, Dukes of Hazzard, or especially, Voyagers.
