wow, off the air for 12 hours.. what year did nickelodeon begin it's 'nick@nite' format?

And I *think* it was called Camp Nickelodeon that first summer...or that could have been the promotional name for the first line-up (being summer and all). The intro (and bumpers) featured the main cast members of all the shows in the line-up in the windows of a bus arriving at a Camp Nickelodeon with the familiar announcer from the daytime line-up saying something along the lines of, "now, it's time for Camp Nickelodeon" and the infamous bugle call, "Reveille," playing in the background.

"Dennis the Menace" started the line-up, followed by "The Donna Reed Show." However, during Nick-at-Nite's ten-year anniversary in 1995, "Dennis the Menace" was not in the line-up nor was "Turkey TV," which also aired briefly on Nick-at-Nite over a summer .

There's a 9 TV Guide lot on eBay, all from 1981, that I asked the seller about. He/she said that there's nothing for Nickelodeon in any of the TV Guides in that lot. Hmmm. What month did Nick go national? And these 1981 Guides range from April to November, I think.

Ric, did Nick-at-Nite show the original bumpers and the Camp Nickelodeon opening (the bus thing) for their 10th anniversary? Unfortunately, I missed it all.

Does anyone remember Looney Tunes being part of the Nick At Nite lineup in the late 1980s? I would love to see that "Looney Tunes On Nick At Nite" opening again, the one where all the characters are getting ready for bed and then wake up to horn blowing. Heh. I was fortunate enough to find the "Looney Tunes on *NICKELODEON*" opening (with Buddy/Bosko, the b/w character in it) on YouTube before it got deleted. It totally brought back memories!!!

I don't believe they did. I didn't watch it live, and I fast-forwarded through most of it to see which eps recorded. I stlll have most of that week on tape somewhere, but being the college kid I was, I was too lazy to label the tapes, so it would take a while to find it.

Wow, some people's memories of Nick at Nite are pretty good. I only remember when Nick aired shows such as Lassie, Dennis the Menace and Looney Tunes in the regular Nick lineup.

Does anyone know when they started airing Heathcliff and Inspector Gadget? IIRC, they aired as part of the nick lineup WHILE they were also airing in syndication, which rarely ever happens.

Or what about that one short they always played ..."The Rock and Roll Pet Store"...or something like that. The premise was a pet store closed at night and then the animals started rocking out on instruments and dancing the night away. Then the owner got there the next morning to find all the animals in their cages asleep.

What I remember the most about that short is the two white rabbits that looked as though they were competing for the last available slot on "Dance Fever." They were in the zone.

Hey, I vaguely remember that rocking animals short, too! I almost don't remember it, but I know I've seen it.

Was that short with the two cats, where the black one is trying to get away from the other cat so he could sleep, one of those cartoon shorts series? Nick played that a lot in the early 90s. I have a copy of most of it on one of the YCDTOTV tapes.

They started airing Heathcliff in around 1991 or 1992. As for Inspector Gadget, Nickelodeon had it on at 7:30pm central around 1989, right after Looney Tunes on Nick. (EDIT: I looked it up- according to the Nick Nostalgia site, Inspector premiered on Nick in the fall of 1987)
